Taurus SA and Aktionariat AG have joined forces to enhance the trading of tokenized shares from small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Switzerland through the Taurus Digital Exchange (TDX). This partnership aims to leverage Aktionariat’s tokenization technology, allowing companies to convert their shares into blockchain-based tokens on the Ethereum network.
The initial launch of this initiative will involve RealUnit Schweiz AG, an investment firm dedicated to real assets, with a go-live date planned for November. The approach promises to offer the same economic and social rights as traditional shares, while also mitigating the risks associated with self-custody of tokenized assets. If holders lose access to their tokenized shares, issuers can recirculate new tokens based on their shareholder registry.
The collaboration is anticipated to significantly enhance liquidity for Swiss SMEs by facilitating trading of these tokenized shares on TDX. Investors will have the opportunity to engage with equity in a digital format, choosing between bearer shares, which are unregistered, and registered shares that maintain official records. As a result, Taurus is set to welcome shares tokenized by Aktionariat onto its platform, thereby expanding access to a broad network of banks, investors, and retail clients.
RealUnit Schweiz AG will be the inaugural issuer of the tokenized shares initiative, having completed their share tokenization with Aktionariat in April 2022. The company’s listing on TDX represents a strategic move to boost accessibility and liquidity for its investors.
In addition to this venture, Taurus has also been advancing its credit tokenization efforts. The firm recently collaborated with a German fintech to begin tokenizing SME loans, offering tokenholders monthly cash flows. This initiative will allow professional investors to engage in secondary markets for private debt on a blockchain-based platform, marking a significant step toward more diversified investment opportunities within the financial landscape.
