USD/IDR Rises as Rupiah Weakens Ahead of Fed Minutes

The USD/IDR pair edged higher in Asian trading on Wednesday, recovering after a modest decline in the previous session and hovering near 18,050. The rupiah remained under pressure after Bank Indonesia’s latest consumer survey showed that consumer confidence fell to 117.8 in June from 120.9 in May. Although the index stayed above the neutral 100 level, the decline suggested a softer domestic outlook and reduced support for the local currency.

Market participants are now waiting for the Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes due later in the day. The release is drawing unusual attention because it will be the first set of minutes under new Chairman Kevin Warsh, giving traders a potential early read on how the central bank may approach US interest rates in the months ahead. Any signal that policy could remain restrictive for longer would likely reinforce demand for the dollar.

The US currency is also benefiting from stronger safe-haven demand as geopolitical tensions intensify. Recent US airstrikes on Iran followed attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, including a Qatari LNG carrier and a Saudi oil tanker. The developments have revived concerns about the security of one of the world’s most important energy routes and have encouraged investors to move toward assets perceived as more stable.

Iran has responded with a defiant stance, saying it will not yield to pressure and rejecting outside interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz. Military officials have described the strikes on southern Iran as a serious escalation and have threatened retaliation. The heightened rhetoric has added to market unease, leaving the dollar better supported against the rupiah as traders balance domestic weakness in Indonesia with global risk aversion.Secret Network is weighing a migration from Cosmos to Ethereum layer-2 Arbitrum, arguing that the security environment has deteriorated as older code becomes easier to analyze and exploit with AI tools. The privacy-focused layer-1 blockchain has operated on Cosmos since 2020, but the team says the ecosystem that once supported its growth no longer offers the same advantages.

The proposal places security at the center of the decision. Secret said aging codebases are increasingly vulnerable, and that advances in AI have lowered the cost of finding weaknesses in legacy systems. The recent exploit of the Axelar-Secret IBC bridge was cited as an example of the risks posed by under-maintained infrastructure, especially when paired with more capable automated attack methods.

Beyond security concerns, the project pointed to a weakening ecosystem on Cosmos. It said liquidity has thinned, development activity has shifted elsewhere, and some of the projects that once supported the network have moved on. In contrast, Arbitrum was described as offering stronger liquidity, broader tooling, and more active support from wallets, exchanges, and builders.

The proposed move would involve a governance vote. If approved, Secret plans to take a one-time snapshot of SCRT balances on Sept. 1 and use that record to issue a new ERC-20 SCRT token on Arbitrum.

The timing comes after the June bridge exploit, which resulted in losses of $4.7 million in bridged assets. Secret’s native token was not affected directly, but the incident reinforced concerns about the security of older cross-chain systems.

The broader numbers also highlight the shift. Cosmos has around $2 billion in total value locked, down sharply from its 2021 peak, while Arbitrum has emerged as the leading layer-2 network by value secured, with $17.4 billion. Secret itself has only about $1.3 million in total value locked on Cosmos.

Investors responded negatively to the proposal. SCRT fell 24% in the past 24 hours to 4 cents, leaving the token more than 99% below its 2021 high. Secret would join a growing list of projects that have moved from Cosmos toward Ethereum -based infrastructure.
